Shadows
To play this game, suspend a white tablecloth or sheet on the nearside of the room.
Have someone sit on the ground or a low stool, with their face directed towards the cloth or sheet. Behind them, on
the farside of the room, put a lamp or candles on a table and turn off all the other lights.
Each of the company in turn passes before the lamp and behind the person who is gazing upon the cloth, which should
then cast a strong shadow.
If the individual seated can name the person by their shadow, the latter has to pay a forfeit, or to take the place
of the guesser, whichever you have all agreed upon.
It's normally fairly easy to detect particular individuals from their normal attitude and posture but they are free
to change this as much as they like, by stooping, standing more erect than usual, bending limbs, using their arms
in any way calculated to obscure the outline of the shadow or even by altering/adding to their
clothing.
