Poems & Carols

No traditional Christmas celebration is complete without the inclusion of poems and carols. Though many of us probably sing the traditional Christmas carols without even a thought, these can make for a perfect way to get the crowd involved and make things as festive as they can be.

Most of us don’t even have to stop and think about the words to our favorite Christmas carols. That’s because they are such an integral part of Christmas that the season wouldn’t be complete without them.

We sing them in the car, as we shop, and throughout the entire season. So why not include these carols and perhaps throw in a few favorite or new poems to make this a complete Christmas gathering?

You can really keep it interesting and integrate the carols and songs in a creative way. If you’re looking for a way to add an interesting element to your gathering or pull in some of the traditional flavor that these add, then consider some of the following ideas:

  • Gather everybody around the piano at your celebration. Have one of the family members play the background music and then everybody sings along to their favorite Christmas carols. You can take turns picking your favorites so you’re sure to cover all the best ones.

  • Perform a karaoke event, Christmas style that is sure to please. Let everyone have a turn at the microphone that you can easily set up in your parlour and let them belt out their favorite Christmas carols. Not only is this a fun and easy way to get everyone involved, but it is sure to create some laughter and applause as well.

  • Let the kids pick and lead the Christmas carols. This is a great way to get them involved in the process, and let them sing until their heart content. As Christmastime is so much about the joy that the season brings to them, this is sure to provide many smiles and a lot of enjoyment for kids of all ages.

  • Let one of the eldest members of the family read a Christmas poem or Christmas story to the whole family. This is a rather symbolic and traditional scene and it’s a nice way to bring everybody together. Do this on Christmas Eve if you can before the kids go to bed as a nice way of tucking them in.

  • Have the kids take turns reading their favorite Christmas poem out loud. This is a great way to incorporate them into the celebration, and also enhances their reading skills. Develop and add onto this tradition each year as a way of growing with them through the years, and bring in the younger kids as they are old enough to read too. This is a fun tradition that can keep up through the years and allow everyone to get involved in the tradition and the fun.
