Entertaining Made Really Easy

So how can you make entertaining really easy?

What’s the secret? How can you really rise above all the stress, all the buildup, and all the items on your to do list and make it all work? Is it really possible for even the most stressed out host to enjoy the season for all that it is?

Yes, and here’s how!

  • Plan everything out in advance and in waves. Here’s the thing—it will all get done, but it makes it much easier if you can digest it in smaller pieces. This is a great way to attack all of your tasks and ensure that you get them all done, but without stress. Take everything on one thing at a time and keep to a plan.

  • Make a list and stick to it. This goes hand in hand with having a plan, but it takes it to a new level of detail. Think through all the things you need to accomplish and then write them down—don’t leave anything out. Write down the cooking, the baking, the shopping, the wrapping, the shipping, the writing, the decorating, just write it down if it’s going to be something you are responsible for. Then after you have all of the major tasks written out, attach a priority and a timeline to it. This is a great way to keep on track with all of the things you need to complete, but allows you to do so in an organized manner with very realistic timelines and built in priorities.

  • Leave time in your busy for “me time”. Whether it’s just to take a quick walk around the mall in between shopping, to enjoy a delicious meal at a favorite restaurant, or to escape for a quick massage at the spa, you need to leave time for relaxing and unwinding. This will make everything easier to deal with and far more approachable.

  • Take people up on their offers for help. If each family member wants to bring something, let them. If you have an offer for somebody to watch the kids so you can go shopping, take them up on it. As there is so much to do at this busy and joyous time of year, if an offer comes in for help don’t turn it away. Though your first instinct may be to turn away extra help, it may be the difference between you staying sane or losing your cool.

  • Stop to smell the roses. This season only comes once a year, so sit back and enjoy it for all that it is. Soon enough, the snow may be left behind but all the hustle bustle and excitement of Christmas will be over. So take the time to sit back and soak it in before it’s gone. Keep perspective is the lesson here!

  • Shop ahead whenever possible. Whether it’s for Christmas gifts, cards, decorations, or nonperishable food items, be sure to shop ahead whenever you can. Not only does this save you a lot of time at the end when your schedule is crunched, but it also allows you to save a fair amount of money in the process as well.

There are ways to make entertaining easier and to enjoy the journey as much as the destination. It’s all about staying organized, keeping some perspective, and stopping to remember what the season is all about.

You can be the best host possible and you will truly be able to enjoy all that the magical season of Christmas has to hold—you are even capable of making entertaining easy too!
